Week 8...

Hi Everyone!
It's been a while since I've written anything. Life really stopped in order to get our little one back to health. We are still working on a complete recovery... but we are finally heading in the right direction! Unfortunately I let the situation get the better of me and haven't eaten very well. I am still off sugar - which has been hard... but I'm taking that one day at a time. But I found it interesting that while we were in the middle of the hospital stuff I ate better than when I got home. I think it all just finally hit me (the emotions of being scared and fearful for our little one, to the lack of any sleep for 5 days). I can tell I've gained because my feet have started hurting again in the mornings. When I lost those initial pounds it was amazing to have the pain dissappear. So... Now that I have focused on the family getting healthy - now I need to return to doing the same for myself! I am going to get back on track with working out and writing down my calories. I have gotten a great deal of inspiration just going around to everyone's sites. It is just awesome to see what people can do when they put their minds and determination behind something!!! Take care everyone and best wishes for continued success!!!

We're Home!!!

WE ARE HOME!!! PartyAfter 4 days in the hospital we are back home. What a blessing... and one of the best Valentine's Day gifts ever (we were discharged at 11am on Valentines Day!!!) Our little guy is doing better, but still fighting off the virus. Thank you so much for everyone's thoughts and prayers! What an incredible group of people... It really is so awesome.

I'll write more later, but wanted to at least check in and say thank you for the wonderful, encouraging comments. Not sure how my weight is doing since I was eating hospital food... and didn't exercise at all (we were basically stuck in an 8 x 10 hospital room for the 4 days... and with treatments and watching our little one, I didn't get any exercise. So... should be interesting on Tues!) One great thing... I didn't have any sugar while I was there... even with the room service gal asking me each time... "And what for dessert, chocolate cake, cheesecake?" I did say yes once... and asked for applesauce! :-) Take care everyone! This experience really showed me what is important. When life completely stops to take care of a little one, you get that chance to reset priorities!!! Smile

This Week's Update

This week has been tough personally. Our 10 month old was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night and we hope to see him home today. I weighed in at 216. Cheryl will have to weigh in when she gets home. Having our son sick changed my perspectivne on things. There is nothing more important than my kids, and I need to do all the things I can to protect them, and give them everything I can. Losing weight and being heathly is really important so we can not only be here, but to be here STRONG, set a good example, and make each day a good day, without excuses.

Rob's Update

Its been awhile since I've checked in. Its been tough keeping on. With grad school and work, the easy path is to ignore what I'm doing and what this is all about. The reasons and the wieght don't go away though. Cheryl has been my inspiration. She reminds me that we have so much to fight for..... I really appreciate this site and all of the resources, I would have been gone by now (like so many times before) without it. What a trip that Cheryl was shown in line for a BL promotional ad last night!!!!!

Why We Should Win!!!

We are inspired by the show and the amazing transformations! We entered this contest for three reasons. First, we have young children that need better role models for healthy lifestyles. Second, we lost a friend to cancer. She was only 41. It made us step back and ask, “If you have 5 years left, what would you do?" Sit on a couch eating... or conquering our weight and doing things we want to do? It’s our choice! We want to rock climb, race cars, & wear bikinis (that one is Cheryl's!!!). Lastly, the Biggest Loser contest gives us the extra motivation to be true to our fitness and nutrition goals, and we would love to share our experience! We expect to succeed in losing weight, changing our lives and winning this competition by following the Biggest Loser program; eating 6 small meals within our calories, being active, and planning and preparing our own food. We work out daily, either doing cardio or the Biggest Loser DVD, with a family fun ‘off’ day. Why should our team win? We want to be an inspiration to our kids, our friends, and people who want to lose weight. We are genuine, good-hearted people who passionately believe in the Biggest Loser program. Having a private trainer will help us finish our goal. Being at the finale would give us a chance to thank everyone for this incredible show. We attended an open casting call in San Jose, CA.and saw so many folks looking for help... it changed us. We are a part of change and the revolution! We are your perfect Million Pound Match-Up WINNERS and America’s next inspirational story!!!

40 Days - NO SUGAR (2/1/08 - 3/11/08)

I have an issue with sugar. If I have even a little, it makes me crave more. So, for 40 days, Rob and I (he is SO supportive!) are going to eliminate sugar so we can focus on eating healthy. After 40 days, we will slowly incorporate sugar back as a once-in-a-while-treat, making sure to stay within a healthy caloric range (as Bob said... If you are exercising and eating right, you can have a dessert ONCE a week). So here is my way of 'resetting' our systems to stop craving sugar!!! We are starting 2 days early to allow for two special days (Valentine's Day and Rob's Birthday).
